The flu season has officially arrived at Tomah Memorial Hospital.  Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse Jan Path said officials have received confirmation of the Type B strain of influenza from the State Department of Health following a routine test conducted on an adult male who came to the hospital’s Emergency Department last week.  Path said flu arrival at Tomah Memorial is the earliest in the last two years.  She said even though some people may think they had have the flu, they most likely have not had “true influenza” which includes body aches.  Path said the most important preventative measure is to get a flu shot…it’s not too late.  She also recommends washing your hands frequently, avoid or limit contact with people who are sick, and cough or sneeze into the arm of your sleeve instead of your hands.  Path said taking care of yourself by getting plenty of rest, drinking a lot of water, and eating a healthy diet, including lots of fruits and vegetables can boost your immune system and make you less likely to become ill.
