Stop for School Buses
The Mauston Police Department and the Jevco Bus Company warns motorists to stop for flashing red warning lights. The Jevco school bus drivers and City police have noticed an increase in motorists not stopping for school buses as they load and unload children in the Mauston area. Drivers must stop on the street or highway 20-feet or more from any school bus that has stopped and is flashing red warning lights. Vehicles from both the rear and front of the bus must stop. The stop arm on the bus is an added communication to drivers, but the lack of an extended stop arm is not reason to pass a bus whose red lights are flashing. And no vehicle may proceed until the bus resumes motion and has turned off the red warning lights.
