A Mauston man has been charged with operating motor vehicle without owner’s consent and OWI.  According to the criminal complaint, in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 30th, 2013, 23-year old Jeffrey Uptain allegedly stole a 2003 Jeep Liberty parked in a driveway in the 900-block of West State Street in the City of Mauston with the keys inside the vehicle.  Uptain had allegedly crashed the Jeep a short time later at the intersection of Highway 12/16 and County Road B west of Mauston.  The Mauston Fire Department, Juneau County Deputies, and Mauston Police Officers responded.  Investigation revealed Uptain was the only occupant in the SUV and he was intoxicated.  Uptain was medically transported to Mile Bluff Medical Center with head and neck injuries.  A records check showed he was out-on bail from Adams County for an OWI-charge.  After being medically released from the hospital the next day, Uptain was transported to the Juneau County Jail.  During a court hearing on Monday, bail was set at a $1000 cash bond and Uptain is to maintain absolute sobriety.
