Sheriff congratulates deputies for saving inmate’s life
Adams County Sheriff presented four deputies with life-saving awards for saving the life of an inmate. Sheriff Sam Wollin said, “On March 10th, 2013 Sergeant Tina Fennell, Deputy Amy Vey, Deputy Chris Rowe, and Deputy Ryan Nelson prevented an inmate from hanging himself from the mezzanine level of one of the Jail’s housing units. Deputy Vey first heard the inmate state he was going to hang himself and alerted the rest of the shift to begin locking down the rest of the housing unit as the inmate began tying a sheet around the banister. Sergeant Fennall and Deputy Nelson entered the housing unit and ran up the stairs just as the inmate was positioning himself to jump. Deputy Rowe placed himself under the inmate to break his fall if necessary. Deputy Nelson reached over the banister and pulled the 6’3” 220-pound inmate up over the bars onto the steps. The inmate was then secured by Sergeant Fennell and taken for a medical examination.” “On behalf of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to congratulate you for your outstanding actions and teamwork in saving this man’s life’, stated Sheriff Wollin.
