Semi driver seriously injured
Slippery road conditions resulted in serious injuries to a Caledonia, Minnesota semi driver Wednesday morning. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said, “75-year old Dale Goergen was traveling east on Highway 14 near Coon Valley when a Viroqua woman, 45-year old Susan Hoernel traveling west lost control of her small Chevy pickup truck. Hoernel was accelerating up the West Coon Valley Hill when she lost control due to the slippery road conditions. The pickup slid across the east bound lane and struck a concrete barrier along the east shoulder. The pickup traveled back onto the east bound lane and was struck by the semi Goergen was operating causing the semi-tractor trailer to travel through and over a guardrail, down a steep embankment striking several trees and rocks on its long descent before coming to rest. Goergen was medically transported to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse with head, chest, and back injuries. Hoernel suffered a non-life threatening wrist injury and a possible head injury.”
