Schultz urges rail line investment
State Senator Dale Schultz urges the State to acquire the Reedsburg to Madison rail line. Schultz said, “The Union Pacific Railroad is willing to sell the rail line now that it no longer uses ballast stone from the Pink Lady Quarry in Rock Springs. The D.O.T. is working to come up with a fair price to buy the rail line.” Governor Walker has said his budget includes 60-million dollars for the state’s Freight Railroad Preservation Program. Schultz considers freight rail important enough to warrant 90-billion in bonding for the freight rail program. “The Reedsburg to Madison rail line is critical to keeping more than 3000 rail-dependent jobs in Sauk County communities,” Schultz said.
