Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said, “Saturday afternoon about 2pm a Viroqua man, 70-year old James Porter, was traveling west on Muncie Road in the Town of Union when he fell asleep.  The vehicle left the roadway and overturned into a field.  Porter and a passenger, 60-year old Kathleen Retzlaff, also of Viroqua, were injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro.”  Neither Porter nor Retzlaff were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
