Monroe County authorities are warning residents of a series of recent residential burglaries. Sheriff Pete Quirin says, “Over the past week there have been a series of residential burglaries in the northeastern part of Monroe County. During some of these incidents, homeowners have been home and awakened to find suspects inside the residences. To date, the suspects have fled without confronting any of the occupants.” The Sheriff reminds homeowners that should a break-in occur, go to a safe place and call 9-1-1. If you move or purchase a new home, change your locks. Install flood lighting around the exterior of your home, especially around entry points. Do not post vacation plans on Facebook or other social websites and ask a neighbor to watch your home and pick up your mail when you’re away.
