The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed several bills dealing with mental health treatment. Representative Ed Brooks, a Republican from Reedsburg co-authored one of the bills. The bill requires the Department of Health Services to award grants to counties to enable them to work toward the establishment of peer-run respite centers for people with mental health conditions or substance abuse issues. “We know the people with mental illness feel more comfortable working with others who understand what they are going through,” said Brooks.  There were ten bills in total that the Assembly passed dealing with mental health. These bills will go to the Wisconsin state Senate next.
