Railroad closed in Vernon County
Sheriff John Spears said, “Friday a Holmen man lost control of his vehicle on icy roads and struck a stationary train. 22-year old Nicholas Clements was driving north on Highway 35 near Windwalker Trail in the Town of Bergen when the truck went over an embankment and struck the train. Clements was uninjured. The deputy arrived and advised that the railroad needed to be shut down. At the same time, the train started to move and dragged the Clements’ truck about 4-tenths of a mile. The truck then became dislodged from the train but was stuck on the track just south of Mohawk Valley Road. State Highway 35 had to be shut down for about an hour while crews removed the pickup from the railroad track.”
