NL male swimming to avoid law enforcement
Mauston police assisted the State Patrol in apprehending a suspect involved in a crash on the City’s west side Saturday. The officer said about noon the trooper was assisting with a traffic accident on Grove Street just north of Martin Street when he called out ‘foot pursuit’ for two suspects. One was taken into custody. The other suspect, a 17-year old New Lisbon boy, was seen by a passerby running down Dockstader Street towards Winsor Street. The officer ran through the backyards and arrived at the water’s edge of Lake Decorah where a Juneau County deputy and detective were located. The juvenile was swimming away from shore towards Harmon Isle. The Mauston Fire Department was dispatched for assistance with a boat. The boy finally came out of the cold water. He was handcuffed and medically transported for treatment and later transported to the Juneau County Jail. He has been tentatively charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
