New Lisbon School Board Decides to Replace Floors
Through winter break in December, several classrooms in New Lisbon schools will have some work done on the floors. During the New Lisbon School Board meeting Monday night, it was brought up that there were four classrooms that still had asbestos tiles. Superintendent Dennis Birr said desks and chairs are starting to tear up the tiles, causing the asbestos to become exposed. It was suggested that new flooring be installed because it would be cost effective and cheaper to clean in the future. Birr said the cost for replacing the asbestos tiles would be $21,000 and could be absorbed into this year’s replacement budget for repairs and maintenance. There was discussion about leaving the project until next year, but Birr stated that if the proposal passed right away, the company could start the work during winter break and the district could save just under one thousand dollars than if the districted waited. The measure passed unanimously.
