New Lisbon Prison makes donation
New Lisbon Correctional Institution has made a donation to a local youth volunteer club. Programs Coordinator Sara Jensen says, “the correctional institution recently presented a check for $458.85 to G.I.V.E., Getting Involved through Volunteer Experience’, a student run volunteer organization sponsored through the New Lisbon schools. Funds were collected by the institution through an internal fundraiser. G.I.V.E. is the largest student organization in the New Lisbon Schools. Faculty advisor Rachel Morey said, “last year along, we had 108 students contribute 1355 documented hours of service to the community. Events included ‘trick or treating’ for the New Lisbon Food Pantry, raising funds to spend a night outside for ‘a night without a home’, hosting a fundraiser for Wounded Warrior Project’, coordinating a blood drive for the Red Cross, mentoring second through sixth grade students, and baking cookies and caroling to local home bound residents.” The almost 460-dollar donation made by the prison is expected to help support the volunteer youth club for the entire school year.
