A New Lisbon man has been charged with 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. According to the criminal complaint, last month, the 14 year-old alleged victim told a Mauston police officer that she and friends met 19-year old Christopher Kujawa at Hatch Public Library in downtown Mauston. The girl said the group walked from the library to Riverside Park. There, Kujawa and the girl entered the men’s bathroom, where Kujawa assaulted her. The complaint states the girl’s cell phone contained an exchange of sexually explicit text messages and photos with Kujawa. Kujawa was arrested April 29 for violating terms of probation in a 2013 sexual assault case that stipulated he have no contact with minors except for relatives. In an interview with a Mauston police officer, Kujawa at first denied meeting the girl but later admitted they had met and exchanged text messages, but denied any sexual contact. Police obtained a recording of a phone call placed by Kujawa from jail. During the call he told a person with access to his cell phone to delete the contents of the phone memory and sell it. The officer obtained a search warrant for the phone and retrieved it from the buyer. Kujawa is scheduled for an initial court appearance May 21. He is also being charged with child sexual exploitation, possession of child pornography and exposing his genitals to a child.
