Necedah man remains in jail on cash bond
Judge denies bail modification for a Necedah man jailed on sexual assault charges. During a motion hearing Thursday morning, Sauk County Judge Patrick Taggert denied a motion by 42-year old Neil Becerra’s defense attorney to modify bond from $20,000 cash to a signature bond. The defense attorney argued Becerra is not a significant flight risk and has strong ties to the community. The prosecution countered with just the opposite saying, “Becerra is a flight risk facing 40-years on each count and because of the seriousness of the crimes, the public needs to be protected.” Judge Taggert agreed with the Juneau County Assistant District Attorney and denied the bond modification request stating, “The defendant is facing a total of 560-years in prison plus 1.4-million dollars in fines. Becerra stood mute on the sexual assault of a minor charges and Judge Taggert entered not guilty pleas on his behalf. A telephone status hearing will be scheduled for next week.
