National Work Zone Awareness Week takes place April 3-7th. The theme is “Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.” Last week during the Juneau County Board of Supervisors Meeting, the board designated the week as Work Zone Awareness week in Juneau County. The resolution stated the Wisconsin County Highway Association is asking all 72 counties in the state to unite and campaign to raise awareness for its workers and those of various highway contractors performing for the counties.

Juneau County Highway Commissioner Dennis Weiss urges people to drive carefully in highway work zones throughout the 2017 construction season.

“Road workers are just like anyone else. They want to do a good job and make it home to their families at night, says Weiss. We ask that everyone take extra time and stay alert on the roads.”

There were more than 2,800 work zone crashes throughout the state in 2016, according to preliminary state figures. Work zone crashes in Wisconsin last year caused 1,110 injuries and nine deaths.
