Motorcycle operator slows for ducks
Two Tomah men were injured when their motorcycles collided. Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin said, “Late Sunday afternoon about 5:45pm 64-year old Martin Waltemath was operating a 2008 BMW motorcycle west on County Road ‘ET’ in the town of Byron when he slowed to avoid striking two ducks that were crossing the roadway. Another Tomah man, 65-year old Brent Retzlaff was operating a 2004 Kawasaki following Waltemath. Retzlaff did not notice Waltemath slowing for the ducks and struck the rear of the BMW motorcycle. Retzlaff lost control and tipped his motorcycle onto its side in the middle of County Road ‘ET’. Waltemath lost control of his motorcycle and ended up in a water filled ditch. Both men received non-life threatening injuries. Retzlaff was medically transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital. Waltemath sought medical attention on his own.”
