A 49-year old Tomah woman died Friday morning as a result of injuries received in a head-on collision near Sparta.  Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin said, “the woman was a passenger in a vehicle traveling west on Highway 16 near Hazel Avenue in the Town of Adrian.  The driver was attempting to pass another westbound vehicle when the driver saw traffic in the oncoming eastbound lane.  The driver tried to get back into its lane of traffic, but the operator lost control.  The vehicle fishtailed into the eastbound lane and struck the eastbound vehicle almost head-on.  The 49-year old Tomah woman was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.  The rear passengers were transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital and the driver to a Sparta hospital.  The driver of the eastbound vehicle was extricated and med flown to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.  The identities of those involved in the accident are not being released pending notification of family.”
