Memorial site completed
Nine years after the death of an Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy, a Memorial in his honor will be dedicated. Sheriff Sam Wollin says, “On March 7th, 2003 Deputy Michael Shannon responded to a call that the Strongs Prairie Township workers were being threatened by Thomas Kramer with a firearm. Upon arrival and contact with Kramer, Kramer armed himself with a rife, shot, and killed Deputy Shanon. Deputy Shannon was not scheduled to work that day in March 2003, but was on duty for a court hearing and responded to the call after court.” In answer to the question, why the Memorial took so long to complete? Sheriff Wollin answered, “I was not part of the previous planning of the Memorial, but from my understanding those involved were unable to come to a mutual agreement as to the Memorial, location, and funding. Upon taking office, I was contacted by D.A. Tania Bonnett and Clerk of Court Dee Helmrick regarding an account containing funds for the project. Members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office helped develop a design and I contacted manufacturers and contractors to complete the project.” Sheriff Wollin said, “the public is welcome to attend the dedication ceremony on Friday morning, August 24th, 2012, near the Sheriff’s Office entrance at 301 Adams Street in the Village of Friendship at 8:30am.
