contributed…..More than 1,100 delegates representing 68 of 76 county, district and state fairs and associated businesses celebrated the New Year by attending the 90th annual Wisconsin Association of Fairs annual convention in Wisconsin Dells.  Members from the Juneau County Fair attended the convention gaining new ideas.

The convention culminated with the awards Banquet and the crowning of the 2013 Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs on Wednesday night.  Awards were given for the V.I.P. Awards, Outstanding Fair Person Awards, Hall of Fame Awards, and the Associate Member Hall of Fame Awards.  Many deserving people were awarded, including the 2012 Outstanding Fair Person Vicki McGowan from the Juneau County Fair.  Vicki has been on the Juneau County Fair Board for eleven years, serving as Director for one year and now as Secretary for the past ten years.  As fair Secretary, Vicki coordinates and prints fair entries, writes and prints the annual fair book, obtains the fair judges, sets the fair schedules, and meets with inspectors are just a few of the tasks she tackles during the year.  Innovation and new ideas are where Vicki really excels; when she first took over as Fair Secretary she jumped at the opportunity to create a fair web-site and computerize the fair entry system.  As well as in 2011, she set up a face-to-face meeting with judges prior to the fair to enable more junior exhibitors to meet with the judges.  On top of teaching special education at Olson Middle School in Mauston  full-time, Vicki still dedicates tons of time to focus on relationships with youth, exhibitors and others in the fair community.  According to the Juneau County Fair, “excellence in all her responsibilities shows up in the success of our fairs”.
