Mauston’s Concussion Management Plan
The Mauston School District has established a Concussion Management Plan as per state statute. Monday night during the Regular School Board Meeting Athletic Director Randy Fabian and Mile Bluff Medical Center Athletic Trainer Jason Nuttall updated the Board on Mauston’s policies and procedures which include parental involvement and concussion testing. Nuttall said, “Since the beginning of the school year, 13 students in Olson Middle School through High School have sustained concussions. The student longest out with a concussion was 61-days. This student athlete required major symptom management and academic alterations. The shortest return was 10-days. Six of the thirteen students with concussions required academic restrictions for band, phy ed, modified computer use, and the length of the school day.” Nuttall said, “All 13 have seen medical providers, including those who did not finish their seasons.”
