Mauston School District taxpayers’ mil rate remains almost unchanged.  Mauston School Business Manager, Julie Lankey-Smallwood said, “Monday night the Board certified the tax levy at 8.4-million, which is 4.83% lower than last year.  Contributing to that decrease is the refinancing of another long term debt issue.  Enrollment for the General Aid calculation has decreased by 23-students and our shared cost per student has decreased by $863.  Because our property values in the district have decreased by 33-million, we will receive $304,407 more in state aid than last year.  We were cautiously optimistic at our Annual Meeting in August that the economy was recovering in the Mauston area and our property values would not have as large of a decrease as the past four years.  But this has not been the case and the Mauston School District mil rate will be $12.75 per $1000 of valuation, which is 1-cent lower than last year.”
