Mauston Man Pleads “No Contest” to Substantial Battery Charge
A Mauston man has pleaded no contest to being party to a crime of substantial battery. 40-year-old James Stafford appeared in court Thursday morning with his attorney before Judge Paul Curran. A disorderly conduct charge was dismissed, but read into the record. Judge Curran sentenced Stafford to two years of probation and ordered him to have no contact with the victim. The judge imposed and stayed a nine months jail sentence. Stafford was charged in a fight that happened in December 2012, where Stafford allegedly struck the victim several times causing a fracture to the victim’s forearm/wrist area.
