The Mauston Common Council had a busy meeting on Tuesday night when it took action on items several items. The board approved extending the ATV trails in the city for a one year trial and approved a municipal state agreement regarding State Street. Next, they approved to amend an ordinance designating heavy traffic routes. Because the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the city redesigned State highways 58 and 82 off Division Street and unto South Union Street, a portion of Milwaukee Street has been closed. This ordinance will direct heavy traffic onto Vine Street to LL Townline Road. The next ordinance that was approve amended the Lakeshore boundaries from 200 feet from the water line to 75 feet from the water line. The Plan Commission determined that 75 feet would be sufficient in preserving the natural beauty of the lakeshore without hindering potential future development. The next ordinance that was approved will change the zoning district for the west side of North Union Street from 101 to 211 North Union Street. Lastly, the board approved a resolution dealing with designating officials registering voters on Election Day. It would allow voters go to another readily accessible location in the same building at the polling place to register. Mayor Brian McGuire said that this resolution would keep Mauston up to state code. The Mauston Common Council meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at the City Hall.
