Throughout the nation, National Police Week will be observed May 12th thru May 18th, 2013.  “This is an opportunity for law enforcement to remind the public of the sacrifices made daily by officers in protecting the lives and property of our citizens,” says Vernon County Sheriff John Spears.  “Over 58-thousand law enforcement officers are injured in the line of duty and hundreds more are killed annually nationwide.”  The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be held at the Capital in Madison on May 10th, 2013.  National Peace Officers Day will observed on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 in Washington D.C.  Everyone is welcome to attend the Local Memorial Service at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua on Tuesday morning, May 14th, 2013 at 10am.  If it rains, the service will be moved inside the Sheriff’s Office.
