Wood County Dispatch released the following warning:  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns parents and caregivers to NOT let children handle single-load liquid laundry/dishwasher packets, as the chemicals in them are toxic.
CPSC is aware of about 500 incidents involving children who were injured by these laundry packets, which are designed to dissolve in the washing machine. But, they can look like candy or something fun to play with. Children find the colorful and squishy packets attractive. Some young children have become ill and have been hospitalized after putting these small packets into their mouths and swallowing some of the detergent. Others have gotten it into their eyes, causing severe irritation.
CPSC reminds parents and caregivers to keep all laundry products and other hazardous products, regardless of their packaging, locked up and out of the reach of children.
