Authorities have suspended investigation of a burned vehicle. The deputy said New Year’s Day about noon he responded to Byington Road south of County Road ‘I’ in the Town of Summit for a vehicle on fire. The SUV was vacant, abandoned, and totally destroyed by fire. The Wonewoc Fire Department extinguished the remaining fire. It appeared the operator was driving north on Byington Road when the vehicle went off the roadway into the ditch. It appeared the driver was trying unsuccessfully to drive it out of the ditch when it started on fire in the area of the dash and firewall. The vehicle was a four-door 1983-1994 Chevy
S-10 Blazer maroon colored. No vehicle identification number was visible. The vehicle was towed to the Juneau County Sheriff ‘s Department impound in the City of Mauston. Various leads proved unsuccessful in locating the owner.
