Illinois man charged with auto theft in Adams County
An Illinois man has been charged in Adams County with ‘operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent’, a felony. The deputy said in June 2012 19-year old Patrick Szupernak of Chicago Ridge, Illinois was staying with several others at a residence on Maple Street near Dellwood. Szupernak allegedly took a car owned by the mother of one of the other guys without permission. Szupernak was driving to a store on County Road ‘Z’ for cigarettes. As he came over a hill, there were deer in the roadway. He tried to avoid them, but the Mazda went sideways and struck a power pole. Szupernak left and was located walking about a half mile from the accident scene. He was initially cited for OWI-1st offense and hit and run of property adjacent to highway. Several days later the owner of the 2007 Mazda from Orland Hills, Illinois and her son came to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office to file the stolen vehicle report.
