The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is warning motorists regarding illegally passing school buses.  Concerns have been brought to the Sheriff’s Department about people passing school buses, mainly east of Tomah in the Highway 21 and Highway 173 area.  It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing.  School bus drivers can report violations by giving police the license plate numbers of the vehicle that are violating the state statutes.  Detective Sergeant Ronald Rader warns motorists, “it doesn’t matter if there are multiple lanes or turn lanes, if a school bus is stopped with its flashing red lights activated, all vehicles approaching the bus must stop.”
