Authorities are investigating a fraud complaint. The deputy said a New Lisbon man had a lawn mower for sale on Craigslist. In mid-September he received text messages from a man who wanted to purchase it. He was advised that a certified check would be sent and arrangements would be made to pick up the lawn mower. Three days later the New Lisbon man received text messages from a different cell phone number and was informed the check was being sent from a business in Grafton, Wisconsin for more than the agreed upon price. The New Lisbon man was to deposit the check and send the balance to an address in the State of Maine. The New Lisbon man called the business in Grafton and was advised to call the police because the business had received numerous calls regarding fraud. The bank along with the Grafton business was working on the issue. The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office report was forwarded to the Grafton PD.
