Former corrections officer sentenced
A former New Lisbon Prison Correctional Officer was sentenced to 60-days in jail with Huber privileges. During a hearing Thursday morning, Juneau County Judge John Roemer said, “Jail time is warranted.” 47-year old Jane Hill of Mauston must begin her sentence on or before June 1st, 2013. She had pleaded ‘no contest’ to a misdemeanor charge of 4th degree sexual assault’. District Attorney Mike Solevey had recommended 90-days in jail. Hill’s defense attorney had recommended probation. Judge Roemer said, “Hill was a public employee and public employees have to be held to a higher standard. And Hill fell woefully below the standard and security in the prison was compromised.” Judge Roemer agreed to a deferred sentence to an amended felony charge of misconduct in public office. The original charge was 2nd degree sexual assault by correctional staff. Hill had allegedly had sexual contact with an inmate at the New Lisbon Correctional Institution last year.
