Due to the generosity of people like John and Barb Navis of Mauston, the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter can continue its mission.  Saturday afternoon the Navis’ opened their pond and shelter along Cassidy Road in the Town of Lemonweir for a fun afternoon of fishing for the kids and comradery for the adults. John Navis said, “It’s a fun day for the kids and benefits the animal shelter.”  Because of the vision, hard work, and generosity of so many, the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter Board of Directors has been able to purchase a building located east of Mauston on Highway 12/16.  “Refurbishing is ongoing as donations come-in,” said Member of the Board and building construction liaison, John Della Valle. “We’re about 40% complete inside the shelter with 80% completion within the next month or so.  The sheet rock has been donated and will be installed soon.  BTU will be installing the air conditioning and heating unit, and Tremain Construction will be putting the canopy over the outside dog runs.  Donations are still needed for the parking lot, landscaping, and fencing for the perimeter of the property, “said Della Valle.
