The New Lisbon Fire Department responded to a garage fire Friday morning.  Fire Chief Lynn Willard said, “A passerby noticed the garage fire at a residence about 2-miles west of New Lisbon on County Road ‘A’ and called it in about twenty minutes to seven.  The garage is a total loss but we were able to keep the fire from spreading to the house.  The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.  The family was home at the time.  No one was injured.”   “We requested mutual aid from the Camp Douglas Fire Department for a tanker truck, but we didn’t need it and released it from the scene,” said Willard. The passerby has been identified as Captain John McKenna of New Lisbon.  While on his way to work at Volk Field about 6:30am, Mckenna saw smoke in the distance and went out of his way to see where the smoke was coming from.  Once on the scene he saw three cars in the driveway so he hit the door bell, called 9-1-1, and along with a fellow from a county truck started banging on windows to wake up the occupants. “A lady opened the front door and I told her, you need to get out.  By that time there was smoke in the house.  Her husband arrived and I told him to get the children out.  A few more people arrived and law enforcement told me to get the vehicles out-of the way to make room for the fire trucks,” said Captain McKenna .  All five of the family members were able to exit the house safely.
