Driver falls asleep
A Sparta man was injured Monday morning when he fell asleep and the pickup he was driving struck a bridge pier. Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin said, “About 7am 59-year old Myron Leis was traveling east on Highway 71 near Javelin Road in the Town of Wells when he fell asleep. The 1997 Ford F350 crossed the center line and struck the concrete bridge extension. The vehicle came to rest in a cornfield. A passenger, 44-year old Eric Leis of Kendall was transported to a Sparta hospital then transferred to a hospital in LaCrosse with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was taken to a Sparta hospital, treated, and released.
