Cooper sentenced to 50-years in prison
A Mauston man has been sentenced to a total of 50-years in prison for sexually assaulting two minors. Juneau County Judge Paul Curran sentenced 27-year old Sammy Cooper Friday afternoon although Cooper continued denying any wrongdoing. In December 2012, a jury found Cooper guilty of two charges and Judge Curran sentenced Cooper to 25-years in prison on each count to run consecutively for a total of 50-years in prison plus 30-years of extended supervision. Former Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth acted as Special Prosecutor Friday at the family’s request at no cost to taxpayers. Southworth commented after the sentencing, “Justice has been served for the two young victims.” The court credited Cooper with 618-days already served in the county jail. Southworth is currently in private practice in Mauston with attorney Phil Stamman specializing in criminal defense, immigration, adoption, non-profit incorporation, and wills.
