Controlled burn on Mauston’s south side
The rubble was still smoldering Monday morning after the Mauston Fire Department conducted a controlled burn in the City of Mauston Sunday. City Administrator Nathan Thiel said, “the burn exercise at 723 Division Street was scheduled to begin at 8:30am. The Pufahl property was considered blighted. The Pufahl legal counsel had approached the City and inquired whether the City would be interested in purchasing the property at a minimum cost. The Council approved the acquisition. The City received grant funding from WHEDA for blight elimination, the burn exercise was covered by the funding.” Thiel said, “the Pufahl property is not necessary for the roundabout construction project scheduled for next spring.”
