Seven years of collecting aluminum cans and dozens of bake sales later, the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter has a building.  Thursday afternoon the Board of Directors and others involved in the non-profit group showed-off their facility located east of Mauston on Highway 82.  Kathy Storandt gave tours and said, “The building was purchased for $82,500.  Remodeling of the pole shed is underway, and the project will be completed as donations come-in.”  Thursday afternoon representatives from the Bank of Mauston presented the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter with a check for $700, a match to the items collected from the public during the Animal Shelter Supply Drive.  “The initial thrust for the vision of the animal shelter was the donation of the Carl W. Nelson farm that was recently sold for $50, 000,” said Storandt.  Tours will be given again Saturday, April 27th, 2013 from 10am until 2pm.
