The City of Mauston demolished a house near the downtown Kwik Trip Thursday morning. The City had applied for grant money from the state to help eliminate blight. City Administrator Nathan Thiel said, “The city used some of the funds to purchase the two story house at 531 East State Street from the property owner, Gene Bloom. The City will then sell the property to Kwik Trip.” Secretary Peter Bildsten from the Department of Financial Institutions said, “The City of Mauston was one of only 16 statewide that was awarded the funding for blight elimination. The City received a total of $39,000 to demolish six properties.”
