Charges of theft are being referred to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office for an Adams woman. On Sunday, November 10, the victim had left her purse in a cart at the Dollar General in Adams. She told Officer Matthew Sherd that when she came back to claim it, it was gone. The store manager and Officer Sherd looked at the video surveillance and saw that a blonde woman, who was later identified as Hannah Petty, had taken the purse. Later in the day, someone found the victim’s wallet at the Family Dollar in Adams and turned it in. The victim was notified and came to pick it up. She saw Petty across the street at Kwik Trip and recognized her from the surveillance video. She went over and confronted Petty. Petty told Officer Sherd that she didn’t steal the wallet or purse. She claimed that she thought the purse was hers and when she realized it wasn’t, she tried to get her older sister to return it, however it was to the wrong dollar store. The officer told Petty that the purse was still missing, only the wallet was found. Petty was arrested and transported to the Adams County Jail.
