Adams man almost stung by phone scam
An Adams man was almost stung by a telephone scam reported earlier. The gentleman said the caller told him that his nephew was in a traffic accident in Manila, Philippines and to send money. The senior citizen said the caller was so convincing that he had gone to a local bank, withdrew 29-hundred dollars from his savings account, drove to K-Mart in Mauston and was about to wire the money Western Union plus an additional 400-dollars when his daughter called K-Mart and told him that his nephew, her son, was working in Adams County and told him the phone call was a scam. Luckily he hadn’t wired the money yet and he was able to deposit the funds back into his account. He warns Seniors they should really be on the lookout for these phone scams.
