Adams County K9 Receives Award
contributed…..On October 8, 2013, Deputy Craig Orlowski and K-9 Mieka were recognized for their service while attending the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handlers Association Awards banquet. Deputy Orlowski and K-9 Mieka received awards for Meritorious K-9 Track with Apprehension and K-9 Article Find. Deputy Orlowski and K-9 Mieka were nominated for the awards by a member of their training group. The nomination was reviewed and awarded by the association’s award panel. Deputy Orlowski and K-9 Mieka were considered for the awards based on their response and exceptional actions on April 11, 2013. On that date, Deputy Orlowski and Mieka responded to a residential alarm in the town of Rome. Officers arrived at the property and observed that forced entry had been made to the residence. Deputy Orlowski and Mieka searched the wooded area for the suspect and located a track 50 minutes later. Mieka tracked for approximately 18 more minutes and the suspect was located in the woods near deadfall trees and the suspect was taken into custody. This track was especially difficult as it was completed during a powerful storm with heavy rains and damaging winds. Deputy Orlowski and Mieka immediately returned to the location of the burglary and began searching for items the suspect may have taken from the residence and discarded in the wooded area. Mieka searched for approximately ½ mile and located 11 rings and 1 gold necklace. Deputy Orlowski had received similar recognition and awards by the same association with his previous K-9 partner Kyra. Sheriff Sam Wollin stated, “Deputy Orlowski’s repeated recognition by his peers in this statewide association reflects the amount of commitment Deputy Orlowski has to the K-9 program and to the community.”
