3-vehicle crash involves milk truck
A milk truck was involved in a three-vehicle accident near Westby Thursday morning. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said, “Approximately 7:30am a rural Westby man, 18-year old Justin Zierfus, failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign at Saugstad Road. As he pulled forward to cross Highway 27, Zierfus collided with a milk truck being operated by 55-year old Norman Hemmersbach of Westby. The impact pushed the Zierfus car into the path of a pickup being operated by 45-year old David Lorenz of Chippawa Falls. A passenger in the Lorenz pickup, 36-year old Robert Sutton of Chippawa Falls, was airlifted to Gundersen hospital in LaCrosse with head and back injuries. Lorenz and Zierfus were medically transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital. Lorenz sustained a substantial foot injury. Zierfus sustained minor injuries to his knee and arms. The driver of the milk truck, Hemmersbach, was taken by private vehicle to Gundersen to be check out.”
