Viola man took police on chase
A Viola man was arrested after fleeing an officer Monday morning. Vernon County Sheriff Gene Cary said 35-year old Mark Garrity was allegedly causing a disturbance at a residence on south Jug Creek Road in rural La Farge. Deputies were dispatched to the scene and located Garrity and his vehicle in La Farge. Garrity fled from the deputy and drove west on Highway 82. Upon approaching the Webster Town Shop at the intersection of Salem Ridge Road and Highway 82, Garrity pulled into the parking lot. A deputy attempted to block Garrity’s vehicle from going any further, but Garrity rammed into the passenger side of the squad car, continued into a field, through a fence, and back onto Highway 82. Garrity’s vehicle struck the squad car a couple more times during the pursuit. Garrity went off the road and drove through a corn field east of County Road ‘S’ and thats where deputies were able to stop his vehicle and take him into custody.
