Juneau County Sheriff Brent Oleson

contributed….The body of the second missing boater on Castle Rock Lake, 26-year old Thomas Eckl of Greenfield, was located by an individual on a jet ski on Sunday, May 2nd, shortly after 1pm in the area of Alcatraz Island.  The body of the other boater, 31-year old Daniel Richardson, was previously located by a member of the dive team who was searching from a boat Friday, April 30th, shortly after 8:30am.
Sheriff Brent Oleson said, “It has been a long and frustrating search.  You always keep hope that by some miracle the subjects will be located alive.  The reality is, however, that we knew we were dealing with a recovery mission.   This time of year the waters are unforgiving and it does not take long for hypothermia to set-in.”
“I want to publicly thank several people for their assistance throughout the search.  Kevin Andraska of South Shore Restaurant and Jim and Sheila Marx of the Dirty Turtle opened their establishments to the families and emergency personnel for the duration of the 17-day search.  This was ideal for everyone involved and meant alot to the victims’ families.  The Juneau County Dive Team had just under 450-man hours in the search.  The DNR, Lyndon Station, New Lisbon, and Elroy Fire Departments, State Patrol, Castle Rock River Runners Snowmobile Club, and others also had numerous hours invested in the search.  The Red Cross, Kwik Trip, and many neighbors provided food and drink to the family members and searchers.”
The boating accident remains under investigation by the DNR, Juneau County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office.
