Public works report gives snapshot of road improvement projects
During the Director of Public Works Report Tuesday night at the Mauston City Council Meeting, Rob Nelson gave a snapshot of area D.O.T. 6-year road improvement projects. Nelson said, “This year a 14-mile stretch of Highway 58 south of Mauston to the Sauk County line is slated for an asphalt overlay and could impact Mauston traffic. Next year 2011, the 7-mile stretch of Highway 12/16 between Mauston and New Lisbon is scheduled for a resurfacing of the existing deteriorated pavement with asphalt. In 2012, the replacement of Grayside Avenue and Union Street’s 3-inch surface with a 5-inch asphalt roundabout is scheduled in the City of Mauston, along with the reconstruction of the Highway 12/16 and State Highway 58/82 intersection at the downtown Kwik Trip and the replacement of pavement and improve the intersection at Walgreens.” Friday afternoon, local and state officials will meet in Mauston at the Park Oasis to discuss the recurring traffic issues and safety concerns of the current configuration of Interstate 90/94 and the Highway 82 interchange and the condition of Highway 82 in the City of Mauston.
