Juneau County Board voted to help fund study
The Juneau County Board voted to help fund a study on the economic impact of algae blooms on the Petenwell and Castle Rock Flowages. Five supervisors, Lynn Willard, Ed Brown, Margaret Marchetti, Ed Pagel, and Jerry Niles, voted against transferring the $3,000 from the general fund to the Land and Water Conservation Lake Management account. Niles said the county needs to take control of our budget. Supervisor Ray Feldman says the property owners around the lakes need to get something for their high property taxes. Supervisor John Hamm said all economic groups use and enjoy the lakes and he hears from them at his business. County Conservationist Greg Lowe says this is a step towards larger state grants and cleaning the lakes of algae. 15 supervisors voted for the funding and one supervisor, Chairman of the Committee that introduced the resolution, Dennis Kolba, abstained.
