High winds on Castle Rock Lake halts search for two men

Juneau County Sheriff's Department Command Center is setup at the South Shore Restaurant on Castle Rock Lake
Juneau County Sheriff’s Department, area fire departments, and the dive team ended their search Friday afternoon on Castle Rock Lake for two men presumed drowned. Sheriff Brent Oleson said the call came about 2:15 Thursday afternoon reporting an unoccupied boat was doing circles near the Boy Scout Camp. The Lyndon Station, New Lisbon, and Necedah Fire Departments sent boats to the Lake to search. The 17-foot boat with a 50-horsepower motor was located and crews were able to stop the boat. Sheriff Oleson said authorities were able to determine the owner of the boat by the registration number. A search of area boat landings revealed the owner’s vehicle and trailer. It was determined two men, a 31-year old Baraboo man and a 27-year old Greenfield man were indeed fishing on Castle Rock Lake. Deputies searched along the shoreline and a DNR airplane from Adams County searched along with three boats with underwater cameras. But emergency workers have been unable to locate the men. Sheriff Oleson said the boat was equipped with a GPS unit and searchers Friday were keying on that area. 45-people searched the Buckhorn Park hoping to find the men…including several members of one of the missing men’s Guard Unit. Oleson said the water temperature was between 41 and 45-degrees Thursday afternoon and hypothermia would have set-in quickly. The Sheriff said the search will continue onece the winds calm.
