Business owner Mary Schmelzle said, “Alec’s Bar and Grill was burglarized about 1:30am Thursday morning.  Entry was gained through a smashed window.”  Schmelzle said, “the individuals took every cent and made a mess of the place.”  The business was closed Thursday and again Friday, but will reopen Saturday.  Mary said, “this is the third time her and her husband, Keith Schmelzle’s business has been broken into.  The first time was Super Bowl Sunday in 2008.  The perpetrators took every cent and there was a lot of cash from Super Bowl pool winnings and gaming machines.”  Schmelzle said, “yes, the insurance will pay for things like broken windows, closets, and doors…but we have to replace the cash.”  Mary said, “today (Friday) is payroll and these break-ins have taken an emotional toll on Keith.”  She said, “the Juneau County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the burglary.”  She said, “no one has been charged in the previous two break-ins.”
