Blackhawk 4-H Club members may be getting their projects ready for the fair but they are finding no shortage of local community service projects to engage themselves in. The club members recently sold Rootbeer Floats at the Relay for Life on Friday July 30 and raised funds donated back to the American Cancer Society. The ice cream was donated to the Relay for Life committee for this use and the rootbeer was donated by club members. The members also dipped up many chocolate ice cream cones to keep “relayers” cool. The club also had dairy promotion materials available to educate the public about dairy in our great state.
In addition to that, on July 31 the Blackhawk 4-H Club walked in the Lyndon Station Parkfest Parade with a themed unit titled “Soar to New Heights with 4-H.” Club members walked with kites with their favorite projects named on them that they had made at the club picnic in July.
Most recently, the Blackhawk 4-H Club members completed a community service project with Friends of the Hatch Public Library. The club members brought up all of the boxes of books and other items taken out of library circulation from the library basement for the sale held in the community room. The members are always amazed at how many boxes of books there are to bring up and how few are left after the semi-annual book sale for them to return to the library basement.
Blackhawk 4-H members pride themselves in being active in community service projects along with their involvement in fair oriented projects. The youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders and the members of Blackhawk 4-H Club demonstrate the positive things that youth are doing all over our community to make Mauston and Juneau County a great community.
