Near record temps Tuesday

Not quite record temperatures in Mauston, but close. The record high for January 31st was set in 1989 at 53-degrees. The high for Tuesday was 48-degrees. The mild winter temperatures created quite the snow melt as puddles formed on city streets and run-off Mansion Street to the Lemonweir River near Riverside Park in Mauston.

Jury finds Gage guilty

“A jury has found a Mauston man guilty of sexual assault,” said Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth. “The jury remained in deliberation Thursday night and reached a verdict at 12:49am Friday morning. The jury found 47-year old Patrick Gage guilty on three counts of sexual assault.” The incidents occurred several years ago. Gage made international headlines when he reportedly fled from the Grand Cayman Islands where he was allowed to live and work while out on a $100,000 signature bond. With the help of ‘America’s Most Wanted’ television show, Gage was located living in a small community in Saskatchewan, Canada. Gage was extradited back to Juneau County in December 2010. The jury reached a verdict early this morning and found Gage guilty of three counts of sexual assault of a child. Judge Paul Curran ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Bond was revoked and sentencing is to be scheduled.

A New Lisbon man died as a result of injuries received in a one-vehicle accident Sunday morning. Juneau County Coroner Kathy Kohutko said, “the accident was not witnessed, but Juneau County dispatch received a call about 5:45am of a one-vehicle accident in the Town of Lisbon. 47-year old Timothy LaFortune was traveling east on Frontage Road in the Town of Lisbon. While rounding a 90-degree turn traveling south, the vehicle rolled and LaFortune was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma to the chest.”

Zellmer, LaMont J., age 75, of Tomah

LaMont J. Zellmer, age 75 of Tomah died Wednesday, September 21st at Tomah Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical LUtheran Church in Tomah. Burial with Military Honors will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, September 25th from 4-7 p.m. at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home in Tomah and Monday, September 26th from 10 a.m. till time of service at 11 a.m. at the church.

Wisconsin Recalls-10th District

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Sen. Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls has
defeated her Democratic challenger in one of six recall elections
targeting Republican incumbents in the Wisconsin Senate.
     Unofficial results in Tuesday’s election show Harsdorf got 58
percent of the vote compared with 42 percent for Democrat Shelly
Moore, an Ellsworth public school teacher.
     Harsdorf is the second of six Republican incumbents to win on
Tuesday. Four other races were too close to call.
     The wins help Republicans as they try to maintain majority
control of the Senate despite the recalls. They have to win at
least four seats in the eight elections, six of which target
Republican incumbents and two that go after Democrats. Those two
elections are next week.
